- Removed out-of-bounds check during xticklabel optimization, because it was causing an infinite loop
- Added a more descriptive error message when figure size is too small to draw given plots 28

- Fixed X-axis label placement instability causing an infinite loop warning 26
- Slightly lowered the number of X-axis ticks being drawn to prevent crowding of the labels
- Added Python 3.12 to the GitHub Workflow CI tests

- switch from poetry to flit for building and publishing to PyPI
- remove support for Python 3.6 (EOL) and 3.7 (EOL in a few weeks) so some backporting dependencies could be removed
- add testing for Python 3.10 and 3.11 in the GitHub Workflow
