Cloudlift was built as an internal tool at [Simpl](https://getsimpl.com). The aim was to make it easier for everyone to create, manage and deploy services without a DevOps team.
Simpl follows microservice architecture and we decide the tech stack for services based on requirements of a service and available expertise. We quickly ended up with 4 different stacks and within that, differing versions of language and framework. We realized that over a long term, it will be hard for us to manage these many variations and there was a need for a tool which can help us keep up the development speed, without losing reliability and scalability of our infrastructure/services.
Thus, `cloudlift` was created.
Over time, we have interacted with several outside developers who have shown interest in how we've managed to run these many services at a scale which supports well-known merchants, with small team size. That inspired us to open source `cloudlift`, hoping it will help others with their platform in AWS.
